About Emergent

The company was formed in the 4th quarter 2005 to commercialize technology being developed at Columbia University's Computer Science Department for the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Next Generation 9-1-1 marketplace. The company's two principal founders have a long and deep history with Columbia University and its Science and Technology Ventures Office (STV) as well as the Computer Science Department chaired by Prof. Henning Schulzrinne.

Management Team

Michael J. Tedder - is co-founder and President of Emergent Communications, Inc. an IP Telephony and collaborative communications software company. Prior to launching Emergent, Mike held positions in Global Accounts Sales and Sales Management at AT&T, responsible for sales, implementation and account relationship management of various Data and IP services to Fortune 500 companies in the Eastern United States from 1990-2004.

Santo J. Pittsman - is a co-founder and Vice President of Emergent Communications, Inc. Santo is also a co-Founder, and President of LearningSpan, Inc. an e-learning applications service provider. Santo began his career with KPMG in its New York office. Thereafter, he held financial positions of increasing responsibility with a publicly traded specialty chemical manufacturer and was the CFO of a publicly traded paging company. Mr. Pittsman served as CFO of SIP Communications and SIPquest, Inc.

Prof. Henning Schulzrinne - is a co-founder and Chief Technical Advisor to Emergent Communications. Prof. Henning Schulzrinne received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. He was a member of technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill and an associate department head at GMD-Fokus (Berlin), before joining the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering departments at Columbia University, New York. He is currently chair of the Department of Computer Science. Protocols co-developed by him, such as RTP, RTSP and SIP, are now Internet standards, used by almost all Internet telephony and multimedia applications. He is research interests include Internet multimedia systems, ubiquitous computing, mobile systems, quality of service, and performance evaluation. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
